Numerous businesses owners have realized their dreams with free business grants for minority women


Though contribution of women is steadily growing in the US economy, they face disproportionate challenges when it comes to securing funding for their small businesses. Even if they are able to secure the loan, the money given is comparatively smaller, and may be offered with more strings attached. Business grants for minority women pave the way for gender equity in business and other areas, such as entrepreneurship, research, art, and training. Small Business Growth Fund issues grants in the range of $5,000 to $25,000. The grant money is not specifically for women of color, but you can apply if you meet the eligibility, as women, irrespective of their ethnicity, are considered minority when it comes to business ownership. 

 

Amber Grant, started in 1998 in the honor of aspiring business owner Amber Wigdahl by WomensNet, offers two monthly business grants for minority women, worth $10,000. Amber died at the very young age of just 19. All women are eligible to apply for Amber grant, a the grant is not specifically for black women. The award money is usually given in the categories of marketing, and business growth, among others. At the end of each year, previous monthly winners also have the opportunity to win two $25,000 grants. SartHER Grant, run by Texas Women’s University Center for Women Entrepreneurs, awards $5,000 grants to 25 Texas-based women business owners. Texas residents, running a business in Texas, can apply for business grants for minority women through this program. 

 

Coalition to Back Black Businesses 

The Power Forward Small Business Grant aims to empower black women through its business grants for minority women, across New England. The program has a total join commitment of $1 million Vista print and Boston Celtics. Coalition to Back Black Businesses is a multi-year initiative by the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation. It provides business grants for minority women in partnership with nine businesses and organizations. The annual program accepts applications for its $5,000 grants each year. To qualify, you must be an African American women business owner, and employ between 3 to 20 people. Your business should operate in an economically vulnerable community. 

 

FedEx Small Business Grant Contest 

Founded in 2012, FedEx Small Business Grant Contest has so far awarded more than $1.5 million in cash and prizes to more than 100 small businesses. To enter into the contest, your business must be for profit, and have been in continuous operation for at least six months, with a maximum of 99 employees. The National Black MBA Association’s Scale-up Pitch Challenge gives grants to women, and also business grants for minority women, to them connect with early-stage investors and venture capitalists.  

 

Grant opportunities by federal and state governments  

Many more government business grants for minority women are provided by Small Business Administration (SBA), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Economic Development Agency (EDA), Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program, and other programs.
