Veteran owned business grants to help veterans start new phase of civilian life

 

Veterans often find it difficult to adjust back to civilian life, particularly if their military service was of longer duration. It can be even more difficult to adjust for disabled veterans, who may not be able to perform the physical requirements associated with some jobs.

The US Small Business Administration (SBA) runs Veteran Business Outreach Centers (VBOC) through which it provides veteran owned business grants, and also supports veterans through business training services, mentorship, and counseling.   

Grants from Hivers and Strivers  

SBA Veterans Advantage Loans of up to $35,000 are available to qualifying veterans. If your credit score is 680 or better, you will most probably receive a response to your application within three days, and you can invest the money in your small business. SBA also offers Boots to Business (B2B) education and training program as part of its Transition Assistance Program (TAP). Hivers and Strivers is an angel investment group which caters to veteran businesses in their early phases of development, and which are owned/operated by graduates from the Military Academies.   

VEP and VWISE Grants   

Veterans Entrepreneurship Program (VEP) is available through the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The goal of the program is to help eligible applicants with veteran owned business grant, and increase profits in existing businesses. Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (VWISE) is another SBA program that provides veteran owned business grants to female veterans, along with business training. Small Business Growth Fund, in collaboration with Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), awards grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, which can be used to grow and expand their business.
