The Office of Science, a subset of the US Department of Energy (DOE), also participates in these programs and offers opportunities for federal government business grants. The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) supports extension efforts in rural businesses working in agricultural and behavioral sciences.

Its State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) provides financial awards to small businesses to help them with their export development initiatives. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides federal government business grants to small rural businesses having fewer than 50 new workers, and less than $1 million in gross revenue.
