Many grants and scholarships for women are available to help improve their prospects

Though women make up half of the population in the USA and the world, they suffer continuously from unfair practices, gender discrimination, and even gender harassment. Grants and scholarships, which are specifically available to women, give them an opportunity to fight back and prevail. While established businesses can rely on profits to grow, new businesses need to be resourceful, and need financing to get through the first few slow months. Thankfully, if you carefully look for them, you will find that many grants for women starting a business are available, provided that you apply for them within the small time window for which they are available, complete with all the documentation.  

EmpowHER grant 

Amber Grant gives an award amount of at least $30,000 per month, through three grants for women starting a business, each of $10,000, under specific categories. Additionally, three year-end grants of $25,000 each are given under three categories. EmpowHER grant for women starting a business to a female entrepreneur in the US who is 22 years or older. The grantee receives an award amount of up to $25,000, and advice by experts for long-term planning.  

Cartier Womens Initiative StartHER grant 

The Cartier Women’s Initiative provides grants for women starting a business in nine regions of the world, with the first-place awardee receiving $100,000, the second-place winner receiving $60,000, and the third-place winner getting $30,000. High Five Grant for Mom is a semi-annual grant of $5,000 that provides networking support, training, and mentorship to women who are balancing entrepreneurship and motherhood. Center for Women Entrepreneurs at Texas Women’s University gives StartHER grant for women starting a business worth $5,000. Funds can be used to purchase machinery, equipment or technology, or for property improvements.   

Grants by the American Association for University Women (AAUW) 

Scholarships for women in business help them to pay for their training, college, and even dorms. Tory Burch Foundation Fellowship program is a year-long program for women entrepreneurs. Each year, 50 fellows receive scholarships for women in business from Tory Burch Foundation, and additional resources, such as workshops and networking opportunities with other female founders. American Association for University Women (AAUW) gives awards for full-time study or research to the women who are not US citizens or permanent residents. Each state branch determines its own scholarship amounts and requirements.  

Scholarships by Women Grocers of America (WGA) 

Women Grocers of America (WGA) offers scholarships for women in business of independent grocery industry, or pursuing a degree. The applicant should hold a minimum of 2.5 GPA and maintain full-time enrollment. Women earning an undergraduate or graduate degree can apply for Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation scholarship. The Zeta Phi Beta National Educational Foundation grants scholarships to students majoring in elementary or secondary education.
